Sunday School

Dale and I taught Shawn in Sunday School back about 15 years ago.  Unfortunately, over the years, I have not been able to rememember who all was in our class, but Shawn always stuck out in my memories of that class.  Teaching that particular group of 8-10 year old boys could be challenging at the best of times due to the way they would feed off of one another, getting each other all riled up.... Dale was crowd control, trying to keep them all in line, while I would do my best to get through the lesson between outbursts of silliness.   :)

The reason Shawn always stuck in my mind when I think back to that class was because he was less likely to engage in the disruptive silliness than the rest of the boys, and when he did join them, he was always the easiest to bring back in and focus on the lesson.  I remember that I could always count on Shawn to answer the questions, because sometimes he was the only one listening and he would put thought into the questions and always did well to share his answers, even if he was the only one doing it.  I remember being impressed with the way he would conduct himself, despite the chaos going on around him sometimes.  I was always appreciative of the respect he showed for us as teachers and for his classmates, and I was pleased with the example he would set for the other boys.
