Condolence: Dear Eileen, Karen and Linda and all family members,

It was a real shock to learn of Bob's passing this past Saturday. Our work lives at U of G were intertwined for many years and he contributed tremendously to what I and many, many others were able to accomplish over the nearly 40 years he devoted to the Agmet program at the University. In the book "Sustaining Ontario's Land Resources - A History of the Department of Land Resource Science" we read: "Bob was eager to help with all who sought his advice with instruments, computing or weather data and set a very positive example that often require a commitment well beyond the call of duty. The field working conditions at Elora, Borden or Kinoje often were challenging but Bob handled them with distinction." For sure he worked hard, accomplished much, and was a very valuable member of our group. I am really glad that we were able to talk together this past June when Jon Warland and Claudia Wagner-Riddle organized a trip to Elora to see her new lysimeters being installed and then we had lunch together. It was great remembering things that we had worked on together. My sincere condolences and sympathy go to you at this time.

Condolence: Dear Sweetman family and friends,
I am saddened to learn of the passing of Bob and send my condolences to his family and many friends. I met and worked with Bob while a grad student in the AgMet group from 1969 to 1972 and continued to see him off and on over the years during various field projects culminating in BOREAS in 1994. I found Bob always to be capable, hard working yet good natured and thought he was a very important component contributing to the success of AgMet field projects. Bob was a good man and he will be missed.

Condolence: Dear family and friends: I was a graduate student at the University of Guelph from 1979-1983. Bob was amazing; he was always helpful and we had a lot of fun. Fellow graduate students and I have great memories; often trying to make Bob’s life difficult, which he secretly enjoyed. My condolences on his passing. Brian Amiro, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Condolence: Dear Sweetman family. I was an MSc student at Guelph from 1972-1974 within the AgMet group. I was a bit of an oddball in that my research was in the High Arctic and not in an agricultural field. Bob was a key component of the AgMet group. In spite of a seemingly gruff exterior, he was very supportive and cared about the research undertaken. I continued to see Bob over the years when I visited Guelph. I had the pleasure of attending his retirement party where we were all entertained by the many great Bob stories. My sincerest condolences to the family.
