In Memory of Janet McFadzean
July 12, 1925 - May 29, 2020

On Friday May 29, 2020 Janet (Deacon) McFadzean passed away in her 95th year, at Wellington Terrace. Janet was a life-long resident of Fergus and is now united with her husband Barrie of 60 years and eldest child Bill. Her spirit is carried on by family: daughter in law Helen of Palmerston, children Heather, Amber, Kelsi; Mary [Jim Fox] of Halls Lake, children Laura [Jay], Jeffery, David [Natalie]; Bob [Chris] of Kelowna, children Jennifer, Phil; John [Dianne] of Seaforth, child Claire.

Janet graduated from Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing. After managing an active household, raising a family along with a variety of volunteer activities, Janet returned to school and received a degree in Public Health Nursing at University of Toronto. She was a VON nurse serving rural areas until her retirement in 1981. Her love of nursing carried on in Zambia for three years.

Janet’s priority in life was nurturing her family and friends. Knitting hats for premie babies at McMaster University, baking for friends or church functions, organizing blood donor clinics and taking leadership roles in her church community with CGIT, Sunday School and UCW, are some of the ways she served her community. Janet had a variety of hobbies, including swimming, playing the cello, sewing, curling, leather craft and playing bridge. She was always up for a cribbage challenge or taking someone for a ride on her sailboat. She enjoyed travel adventures worldwide with family and friends.

She supported and inspired her 9 grandchildren and celebrated their achievements. She will be watching over her 5 great-grandchildren. Remembered by special friend Virginia Mann and her late husband Don. She is now joined in spirit with dear friend Betty Johnston (Bruce) of 88 years. She left memorable experiences with her many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at a later date when hugs, handshakes and expressions of love can be shared safely once again. Memorial donations to Melville United Church or Groves Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.

My sincere condolences to the McFadzean family on the loss of your Mother. I often saw Janet when I visited at Wellington Terrace but my fondest memories were the times our family rented "Deac's Den" on Halls Lake for our summer vacation. I loved opening the kitchen cupboard doors and finding all those wonderful recipes. You will have many wonderful memories also. Cherish all of them.

To the McFadzean family, sorry to hear of your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have fond memories of my time with Mac and CGIT and neighbourhood events with Barry and Janet, and the rest of you at your farm. Those were indeed good and fun days! May the happy memories see you though your sorrow. Until we can meet again. Ellen Sparry

Our condolences to the Mcfadzean family, we have many great memories of Barry & Janet , they were wonderful neighbors, many stories from the past won't be forgotten, they both were walking encyclopedias😉 we can still taste Barry's elderberry wine, and the beautiful sound of Janet playing the chelo, will be missed.
