Lance Ford

The first time I met Hugh I was impressed with his class and his unassuming strength. A short time later, I was renovating my first house and Hugh travelled 2 hours to lend a hand. And what hands they were! One of the tasks in my long list included pulling large nails out of the wooden base boards of my century home. Hugh could see that I was struggling with it, so asked me for the vice-grips. He took them, and with his own vice-like grip and started yanking the nails as if they were pins in a cushion. Here was a man twice my age, and half my size, out-working me after a long drive and enjoying himself doing it. I chose to share this memory of Hugh because it speaks to his generosity and strength. Hugh was also a fantastic adopted grand-parent to my children. Over the years he spent a lot of time with our family, and no matter what we were doing he always had a kind word and patient manner that would put the kids at ease and allow them to express themselves. Hugh also has his own grand, and great-grand children, and I have heard much about their lives and successes from Hugh. Every time he would speak about them, I could see that he was brimming with pride. Hugh could not hear well, but he was the best listener that I have ever met. Hugh did not say much, but he was the one of the wisest people that I have ever known. Thank you for being, Hugh. My most heartfelt condolences to the Black family, Lance Ford
