Obituary for Herbert Lannaghan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Herbert Lannaghan on September 13, 2012. He was 73 years old. Herb was born in Workington, Cumberland, England, on April 30, 1939. He was the son of Martin and Elsie (Steele) Lannaghan. Herb moved to Canada looking for adventure and opportunity in 1960. He lived in Hamilton, Labrador City, Tumbler Ridge, and Yellowknife pursuing a very successful forty year career in the mining industry. Herb was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge and served as a Past Master and District Deputy Grand Master. He is a current member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge (Chaplain) in Fergus, Ontario. Herb's fondness of children was shown through his devotion to the Shriner's organization and his many magic show performances enjoyed by his grandchildren. He was also an avid volunteer for Skills Canada, an organization that encourages young people to excel in their chosen trade. Herb will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Heather (MacKeen) Lannaghan, and his daughter, Carrol Ann (Gord Johnson) Davidson of Calgary. He is also survived by his step-children Krista (Milind) Ghanekar of Mississauga, Chad Taylor of Calgary, Daryl (Kendra) Taylor of Williams Lake, and Travis (Ashley) Taylor of Calgary. Herb was a proud grandfather to Delaney and Paige, as well as his step grandchildren Dylan, Chaitan, Emma, Aiden, Sharmila and Luke. Herb is also survived by his five brothers living in Britain, Alan (Sue), John (Elma), Martin (Christine), Robert and David. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gail (Smith) Lannaghan. Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 16th, from 12-1pm at The Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus. A funeral service will follow at 1pm in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in Herb's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. www.grahamgiddyfh.com 519 843 3100
