I was deeply saddened by the news of Colleen’s passing and I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to her entire family. I had the pleasure of knowing Colleen for about 40 years, first as co-workers at Zellers and then as very good friends. We shared many life experiences, we laughed together so many times and occasionally we would cry together too. There are a few short stories that come immediately to my mind that I would like to share with you. Before my kids were born Colleen and I used to go out for supper usually once a week. When my son Jamie was born she was the very first person to come to the hospital to visit us. She also was the first person to come to our apartment after I came home from the hospital with our new son and she called before to see if I needed anything. In all my excitement of having a baby I never thought to buy a pacifier, so after a very bad first night with a screaming baby Colleen came to my rescue. I was forever grateful for that small but thoughtful gesture. My husband used to have a monthly poker game with his friends and one night Colleen and I had no plans so we decided to crash the game. The guys invited Colleen to join the game thinking that they could easily beat her….the joke was on them as Colleen quickly won the jackpot and took all their money (she even felt bad afterwards for winning). I don’t think she was ever invited back to play poker with them again. I also remember helping to teach Colleen how to drive. Before she even had her driver’s license she bought an old blue rambler that we named “Rosie”. We spent a lot of hours in that car driving around Guelph, Fergus and Elora. I remember one night it was dark and raining really hard after we left work and we decided to go to the Town and Country Restaurant in Guelph for supper. I was driving the car and as we were going up Eramosa Rd. there were flashing lights from police cars. I slowed down thinking there was an accident but we were naively waved into a seat belt check line (this was around the time that they started to enforce wearing seat belts). Unfortunately, neither of us was wearing our seat belts so we had to get out of “Rosie” and go into the back of the police car while they checked out my license and Colleen’s ownership of the car. We both ended up getting a fine that night and we chuckled about it for a long time afterwards. Although we have not been in close contact for the last few years, I thought of Colleen often and wished the very best for her. I will always cherish the happy memories that we shared and my wish for her now is that she is able to rest in peace. Once again, deepest sympathies from myself and my family. Sue Roszel
