We met Ashley five years ago and she spent tons of time with us and lived with us on and off. We have a number of dogs as I am a breeder. Ashley got to be involved with a litter we had and honed in on one little girl who we called Pearl. She would come into the house and zero right in on that puppy and sit with her on her lap in a state of bliss. We ended up choosing Pearl to stay with us, and the love those two had for one another was a beautiful thing to witness. Pearl's attachment to Ashley was no less than Ashley's attachment to Pearl. They just found one another to be heavenly and truly loved one another. This all sparked an interest on Ashley's part to learn how to groom, how to rear puppies and all that was involved in dog breeding, and I hoped that this would one day aid in her recovery. When she was not living with us, if she would call, she never forgot to ask how Pearl was, and sometimes she would speak to her on the phone, with Pearl's head tilting this way and that, trying to figure out how her buddy got squeezed into that tiny thing.
I think Ashley felt she could give her heart entirely to this dog because she knew the love was unconditional and non-judgemental, entirely accepting and pure. I am sure that Heaven now has a wonderful guardian of the dogs there who are awaiting the arrival of their humans in time..
