My dad trusted in God.
People trusted my dad.
Trust: Dad trusted in God. When my dad was nine years old his dad died.
When he was 16 years old he was looking for direction in his life and then experienced God giving him more of a real assured connection with Him. This relationship would give him direction for the rest of his lifetime.
For our family he stressed the importance of a personal relationship with God which we all have. He made bible reading after supper with the family a priority. I've continued this with my family and pray that they will continue this.
People would say that my dad was trustworthy even when he was a teenager.
Responsible: Dad was a responsible and caring husband, dad, business person and community member.
As a child my brother and I were being harassed by a group of kids in the neighborhood. Frank told me to go home and get dad. I had to take dad out of one of his favorite places, the vegetable garden. Now this is the only time I saw my dad outwardly showing his anger to others. He picked up two of their bicycles and thew them into the ditch.
More recently a few years ago he decided to downsize from a big home to a condominium apartment. He cut out moving to a smaller house knowing they would have to downsize again to a condominium. Therefore he saved an extra moving upheaval. This decision obviously confirmed itself now that he passed away.
Understanding: Because my dad was caring and a good listener, this made him an understanding person. This helped to make him a very good family person, business man and community person.
Servanthood: He would serve family and others sacrificially.
He paid for my brother and I to go to a private day school for a few years even though he really could not afford it.
He also stressed importance of a family summer vacation for two weeks at a cottage even if he didn't always have the money. It's important not also because of change of scenery but also family bonding and fun. I've also placed a priority on an annual summer vacation with my family.
My dad also carried out his business, employment, church life, and community charity work with a servant heart.
Thankfulness: He recognized God as the source of all good things and always found something to thank God for even when a family member was having a difficult time or if his Real Estate business was having a difficult year.
I would like to share with you all a Hymn that was important to my dad.
All the way my Saviour leads me,
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt his tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heavenly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know whate'er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
All the way my Saviour leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the Living Bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be.
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! a spring of a joy I see.
All the way my Saviour leads me;
Oh, the fulness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father's house above.
When my spirit, clothed, immortal,
Wings its flight to to realms of day,
This my song through endless ages,
Jesus led me all the way.
