Died peacefully Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Chartwell (Chateau Gardens), Elmira. Alan was born Nov 23, 1918 in West Garafraxa Township, son of James Stewart and Jennie Rettie. He was a successful farmer there and retired to Fergus Caressant Care in 1997, moving in 2003 to Chateau Gardens, Elmira. Survived by his sister, Margaret Brunkard of Drayton, sisters-in-law Jean Stewart-Jones of Kitchener, Irene Stewart of Guelph and Barbara Stewart-Schieck of Elora. Survived by nieces and nephews Sandra Pember of Elmira, Mary (Brian) Jardine of Kitchener, Dale (Paula) Brunkard of Goderich, Cathy (Pat) Leahey of Guelph and Larry (Cindy) Brunkard of Drayton. Also several great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents James Stewart and Jennie Rettie, sister Ethel Hamilton, brothers Harvey, Gordon, Donald, and Arnold Stewart. Also predeceased by niece Jean Van Ankum and nephew James Stewart. Heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Chateau Gardens for their care and support to Alan and his family. Visitation will take place at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 10:00 – 11:00 am. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel at 11:00am.
