William “Keith” Miller
November 16, 1924 - October 26,2021
Dad passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Veteran’s Centre in Toronto on October 26, 2021.
He was predeceased in 2019 by his beloved wife Kay. He was the loving father of Michael and Ginny (Stephen), the dearly loved grandfather of Alex and Daniel and great-grandfather of Leo.
Dad said that one of the downsides of living to a very old age was that so many friends and family members passed away first. Still, he will be fondly remembered by many friends, nieces and nephews.
Dad was born in Gaspe, PQ, and after his service in WWII he moved to Montreal where he met and married Mum. They raised their family first in Montreal, then in Toronto.
Dad retired from many years with CN Telecommunications and spent the next 30 years in Fergus - “the happiest years of my life.” Mum and Dad travelled extensively, thoroughly enjoyed their home and garden and their new community and took great pleasure in being with family and friends.
Dad had a sharp inquiring mind. He was an avid reader with a photographic memory and was curious about almost everything. His service in WWII was a transformative event in his life that helped to shape his world view. He was a confirmed pacifist and although a believer in God, Dad felt strongly that many of the world’s ills had sprung from conflicts arising from organized religion. He loved nothing better than a spirited discussion about history, current events and politics. He had a dry wit, with many memorable “Keith-isms” such as, “Nothing like death to turn a sinner into a saint.”
Dad was no saint, but he made an impression! He was complicated - an introvert who craved conversation; a shy man who treasured the love of his friends and family. In his own words, he was a one-off and he will be sorely missed.
There will be no funeral service, at Dad’s request. He will be interred with Mum at Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus, Ontario. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the CW Food Bank. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
