Obituary

Wallace, Viola Mary Rosalie (Fisher) 1927-2020

Beloved mother and grandmother passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at The Elliott Community (Long Term Care) in Guelph, Ontario in her 93rd year. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband George (2019), parents Gordon and Mary Fisher, and brother Merrill. Viola leaves behind six children: Stewart (Betty, deceased 2018), Allan (Janice), Kenneth (Marilyn), Helen (Brad), Mary (Neil), and Philip (Janet), as well as daughter-in-law Brenda Wallace. She is survived by siblings George Fisher and June Stewart (Speers) and lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren,15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Viola was born in Fergus, Ontario and was a teacher before marrying George Wallace and becoming a loving partner working and managing the century family farm in Ponsonby. Her teaching skills were used to bring up six wonderful children, and the generations of grandchildren and great grandchildren that followed. She loved being a part of her local community for which she was an untiring supporter by volunteering for the Fergus Fall Fair, Meals on Wheels, The Elora Festival, Wellington Terrace, many 4-H homemaking clubs, and canvassing for charities. She was also active in the Ennotville Women’s Institute, Elora United Church Couples (Friendship) Club and the Elora UCW. Viola cherished family gatherings that included her delicious food, followed by games of euchre, crokinole and a “second” dessert.

A private family graveside service will be held.

The family would like to thank the team at Heritage River for their compassionate care.

Donations in Viola’s memory may be made to Groves Memorial Community Hospital, the Elora United Church, or the charity of your choice. www.grahamgiddyfh.com

Dear Mary, Neil, Braden and Glynnis,

I am sorry to hear this sad news about Viola. I didn't know her, but in reading her obituary she reminds me of so many wonderful women of her generation--caring for others, family minded and one who enjoyed a good game of euchre. Her story resonates with me because my mom passed away a year ago this month at the age of 85.

I know that you will cherish the many memories you have of her.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
