Obituary for Susan Jane Ellig

Our hearts are saddened to announce the passing of Susan Ellig, age 64, from pancreatic cancer. She was the cherished daughter of Mae Ellig and the late Joseph Ellig. She will be forever in the thoughts of her two sisters Linda Shaw (Murray) and Jody Burtch (Ken). She was the beloved aunt of Ben Shaw (Loretta), Kendall Skinulis (Rob) and Joel Burtch (Becky). She also adored her great-nephews Reed, Brock and Cole Skinulis and Henry Shaw.

Susan worked at the University of Guelph for 45 years, starting in the library and then moving on to the large and small animal departments. The day she retired she was diagnosed with her cancer. Susan’s passion was her animals. She had many pets throughout her life - dogs, cats, birds and fish. Dogs were her passion and she leaves behind STATIC, SIZZLE and THYME. They have all gone to new loving homes. Susan was an active member of fly ball. On her front porch she fed and kept shelters for feral cats.

Susan had a wonderful doctor; Chris Stemerdink, and we are so grateful for his care and phone calls during her illness. Susan had been at Grand River Hospital, Guelph General Hospital, and passed at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. There aren’t enough words to thank the nurses and doctors at each facility. During her brief stay at Groves, the nurses and doctors treated Susan with the utmost respect, dignity and tender care. A special thank you to Dr. Sayanvala, Dr. Sarah Gower, nurses Tanya, Robyn and Jody and others whose names are unknown.

Susan’s wishes were to be cremated with no service or celebration of life.

Due to her great love of animals, donations can be made in her name to the Guelph Humane Society or due to her illness, to the Canadian Cancer Society.
