Obituary for Schmacher Lorne

SCHUMACHER, Lorne Harry (aka “Mr. Schu”)Passed away peacefully at home while trimming trees, with his grandsons Christopher and Johnathon by his side, on Sunday May 20th in his 75th year. He is survived by his loving wife Joan (nee Stuempfle) of 52 years. He will be sadly missed by his five children, twins, Kimberly (Jack) Crawford of Kelowna B.C. , Cameron Schumacher of Guelph , Kelly Dvorchek of Oshawa, Katherine (Jens) Boehme of Mississauga, and Corey (Wendy) Schumacher of Guelph. Cherished grandfather of 5 grandchildren, Christopher, Johnathon, Erick, Jocelyn and Danielle. Dear brother of Jerome Schumacher of Elmira, Helen Dutka of Kitcheners and Janet Glover of Kitcheners. Pre-deceased by his brother Ralph Clarence (1930), father Oscar Schumacher (1978) mother Mary Rose (nee Fischer) (1989) and sister Lorraine St. Cyr (1995). Lorne was a career man with London Life Insurance Co. for 34 years. He took great pride in helping people and their families attain financial security when it was needed most. He was a member of the Life Underwriters Association and Past President of the Kitcheners-Waterloo local association. He was a member of the “Million Dollar Round Table”. Lorne also was a founding member of the “Poor Boys Luncheon” in K-W. At 58, Lorne retired to spend lots of quality time with his beloved wife Joan traveling to Florida by winter and returning home to spend the summers with his children at his beloved cottage at Belwood Lake, of which he derived immense joy from for 45 years of his life. In retirement, Lorne dedicated volunteer time to the Rotary Club in Fergus where he was also the founder of the “Great Rubber Duck Race” down the Grand River. Lorne had a tremendous passion for life, as well as for his family. He will sorely missed for his immense caring, wise fatherly advice and continuous support of his wife and children both good times and bad.Lorne was an ardent “South Paw” golfer at Sen Jen Golf Club in Fergus. He was the first President of the Conestoga Golf and Country Club. He looked forward to Thursday mornings volunteering as a course marshal at the Wildwinds Golf Club. He took great pride in extending his fatherly role as a school crossing guard for McQueen elementary school in Fergus for the past five years. He will be fondly missed by all ‘his kids’ as his school crossing.The family will receive their friends at the GRAHAM A. GIDDY FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 280 ST. DAVID ST. S. FERGUS. On Tuesday May 23, 06 from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. The rosary will be prayed at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 8:30 P.M. The roman Catholic “Rite of Christian Burial” will celebrated at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 460 St. George St. W. Fergus on Wednesday may 24, 06 at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Frietas officiating at the service. Cremation to follow with a private family interment at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Kitcheners. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to be made to the “St. Joseph’s Church Building Fund” 460 St. George St W.
