Obituary for Roswitha Wendling (Bernhard)

Wendling, Roswitha “Rosie” (nee Becker) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on
Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 at the age of 74 after a 3 year battle with cancer. She is
survived by her daughter Tina and husband Aaron and is sadly missed by her grandchildren
Jack and Hazel. Rosie was born in Weiher, Germany and immigrated to Canada on the Russian
ship “Alexandr Pushkin” in 1969. Rosie began working at Raytheon Canada in 1971 where she
met her husband Jim. They were married in 1974 and had a wonderful life together. She left
Raytheon in 1983 to devote her time and energy into her family. In 2006 she began working at
Sobey’s where she met lifelong friends including best friend Monika Unrau. Rosie will always be
remembered for her lively and loving personality, her wonderful sense of humour, amazing
accent and uncanny ability to remember everyone’s birthday. Rosie will be greatly missed by
everyone who knew her. Survived by her sister-in-law Mary Lou Farkas of Windsor and her
family in Germany, niece Silvia and husband Frank and their children Jan and Luca and
nephews Jurgen and Oliver. Predeceased by her parents Bernhard and Luzia (nee Schmidt),
brother Willibald and his wife Magdelena, sister-in-law Kathy, brother-in-law Eugene nephews
Zachary and David and her husband Jim who passed away in 2010. Arrangements are
entrusted to Graham A. Giddy Funeral Homes LTD. 617 King St. N. Waterloo. At Rosie’s
request, cremation will take place. The family enjoyed a celebration of life prior to her passing.
