Obituary for Robert Reynolds

Bob, only child of Harold and Beulah Reynolds (nee Brown), born on Jan 22, 1929 at the Ottawa Civic Hosp, and promoted to glory on Tuesday Sept 6, 2011 at the Toronto General Hospital. Cherished husband for 36 years to Angela (nee Mannone), and loved by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Moving from Tweed at the age of 14, Bob defined himself as a ``Railway Brat``, his father being CNR Station Agent, the family of three having been transferred to Scarborough Junction, beginning the spring of 1943 during WW II. Bob`s bedroom was six feet from the RR tracks. They weren`t easy years for the family, or any Canadians, but they were some of Bob`s most memorable ones as he learned about the railway business and helped his father. After high school at Scarborough Collegiate, Bob`s free-spirited style, far-sightedness, keen interest in people and global affairs, marketing and business acumen, had him enjoy a 38 year career with Crown Life Insurance Company in Toronto, his final position being that of Senior Agency and Marketing Vice-President. In `retirement` he continued to share his skills with small business through the formation of Reynolds and Associates (Consultants), and spent many hours enjoying the roller-coaster ride of stock market investing. A voracious reader, he also loved to travel, which included two trips around the world. Bob was a very generous man – generous with his thoughts and opinions, his talents, and his possessions. Over the course of his career and into retirement, his desire to `give something back` brought him to a number of philanthropic involvements. To name a few * First President, Canadian Head Injury Association * Board Member, Ontario Brain Injury Association * Board Member, Elora Festival * Chairman, Marketing Plan Committee, Village of Elora * TV Host, Cogeco Cable TV, ``Lifetimes`` and ``Centre Wellington Report`` * Board Member. Economic Development Committee, Township of Centre Wellington * Board Member, Greenlands Committee, Centre Wellington * Board Member, Elora – Cataract Trailway * Support to Toronto General and Western Hospitals Foundation; Groves Memorial Community Hospital; Grand River Conservation Authority…Bob enjoyed mentoring young adults and they were drawn to his knowledge, wisdom, and honest and straightforward approach to life, and he, to their individuality, interest and desire to learn, and to be the best they could be. Bob lived a full and happy life, knew who he was, from whence he came, and where he wanted to go. He had integrity that was admired and respected, honesty, gentleness, and strength in all ways that mattered. ``Battle Hymn of the Republic`` and ``Sons of God`` were his favourite hymns and he spoke often about the many Broadway musicals he had enjoyed, such as Oklahoma, Les Miserables and Momma Mia. A private interment will take place at the Elora Cemetery, but a Christian Celebration of Bob`s life will take place on Saturday September 17, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St James Anglican Church, 171 Queen Street East, Fergus. Ontario. If desired donations in Bob`s name to the Toronto and Western Hospitals Foundation, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre: Cardiology Fund for Excellence 1 877 846 4483, or Groves Memorial Community Hospital (CT Scan). Would be most appreciated. ``My Way`` (by Paul Anka) And now, the end is here as I face the final curtain. My friend I`ll say it clear. I`ll state my case, in which I`m certain. I`ve lived a life that`s full. I`ve traveled each and ev`ry highway. And more, much more than this, I did it my way. Arrangements entrused to the GRAHAM A. GIDDY FUNERAL, 37 CHURCH STREET, ELORA. 1 519 846 5352
