Obituary for Robert David Kidd

Robert David Kidd
January 20, 1947 – April 3, 2014

Bob, Dad, Baba, Coach extraordinaire, closet meteorologist, nudist, safety expert of everything and skier to the end, died on Thursday, April 3, 2014 with his wife and girls holding his hands and toes.

The women in Baba’s life were numerous. He married his sweet Sandra 45 years ago with whom they had two girls Johanna (Jay) and Tegan (Rodney). He taught them how to swim, to change a tire (which neither of them can remember now), to drive two chevrons behind the car in front of them and how to properly clean earwax from one’s ears with a paperclip. He was thoroughly pleased when his two son-in-laws brought testosterone, chips and cookies into the house. His four grand-children Quinn, Dante, Elle and Zahra shared silliness, laughter and love with him until the very end. The 2012 Callandar Bay Canada Day parade with the homemade float and whole family was one of the highlights of his life.

Bob was famous for his Jamaican rum cake and muffins that he gave to everyone. He loved to kayak on Callandar Bay and call his daughters whenever the Weather Network was forecasting freezing rain. He and Sandra spent their summers swimming, rollerblading and kayaking, and their winters skiing and tobogganing with their grandchildren.

On a serious note, we would like to extend our most sincere thanks to Dr. Malcolm Moore and team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for their caring hearts and brilliant minds, and Jennifer, Laura, Manny, Strachan, Maggie, Yvonne and B.K. As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Bras Drug Development Program (www.brasddp.com).

Bob’s courage and bravery over the past 7 years were possible because of love . . . for each other and from those surrounding him. Because of his irrational fear that his family would throw him a bowling-themed funeral despite his strong dislike of the sport, a private family-only service was held on Saturday, April 5, 2014, free of any type of ‘theme’.
