Obituary for Robert Thornton Grills
Passed away surrounded by his family at Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus, on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021 in his 73rd year. Loving husband of Janice (nee Holman). Loving father of Julia Jennings (Paul), Robert (Melanie), Janeen Meagher (Jason). Devoted grandfather to Jamie-Leigh, Rachel and Ryan Jennings, Ryeley, Robynn, Daniel, Isabella and Carter Grills and Jazlynn, Jack, and Janna-Grace Meagher. Survived by his sister Marjorie Dyble (John), sister-in-laws Pamela Pake, Lynn Townsend and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Thornton and Zella Grills, parents-in-laws Bill and Norma Holman and brother-in-law Rick Pake.
Robert was an amazing human being: so truly kind and an incredibly genuine family man. He was married to the love of his life, Janice Grills, where they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 18th.
Robert gave so many things to so many people. He was a loyal loving husband, father and grandfather. He often provided helpful advice and wisdom to his very close knit family. He was a great friend.
He had a passion for farming. He loved the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman. Later on, he enjoyed watching his feather friends visit the bird feeders.
Robert was truly one of the most selfless human beings of his time, and a big gracious, hardworking, loving person. Robert will be known for his great stories around the kitchen table that instantly put a smile on your face.
A special thank you to Dr. Lu and all the amazing nurses, doctors, and staff at Groves Memorial Hospital that provided special care to Robert during this time. A special thanks to our precious mom who provided unconditional love and support to our dad at home during the last year. We were truly shown what love is.
A private Graveside service will be conducted at Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus. Donations in memory of Robert can be directed to Melville United Church in Fergus or Groves Memorial Hospital.
