Obituary for Robert "Bob" Matthew Granger

GRANGER, Robert “Bob”

If you Google “Lived life to the fullest”, don’t be surprised if you see an image of Bob Granger. From the day Robert Matthew (Bob) Granger was diagnosed with Cancer two years ago, he and Marti Sharpe, the love of his life, not only continued to live life to the fullest, they turned it up a notch. Bob was always planning his next golf trip or visit to his trailer at Pike Lake. He loved local politics, taking road trips in his Chevy SSR, and saying “Yeah, Baby!” way too often. Bob’s favourite things included their stone home in Fergus which he lovingly continued to restore, country music and anything recorded by Blue Rodeo or Jimmy Buffet (although Bob would tell you he was dragged kicking and screaming into the latter). It’s no surprise to anyone who knew him that Bob got a kick out of giving people nicknames, helping out friends and neighbours with their home projects and having a cold pint or two. Bob took with him fond memories of his years playing with the Guelph Ingrams. He was so proud to be an employee of the County of Wellington for 36 years that even after retiring in 2005 he continued to refer to the County as “We”. One of several post retirement jobs included contract work with Centre Wellington Township. Bob took great pleasure in being a lifetime member of OMHRA, the Ontario Municipal Human Resources Association. He even liked to think of himself as a pretty good dancer, although Bob’s family and friends beg to differ. Not surprisingly, the people who Bob loved the most loved him right back even more until his last day, July 26th, 2015 (at the age of 68). No one cared for him more than his three sons, Jim (Jen), Steve (Kim) and Matt (April); his seven grandchildren, Keegan, Abby, Sam, Emily, Olivia, Jack and Jase; his sisters Pat French (Ralph), Larry (Judy) and Nancy Hill (Ron); his many nieces and nephews; and of course, Marti. Bob is predeceased by his father and mother, James (Scotty) and Anne Granger. Bob’s family would like to acknowledge the doctors, nurses and staff at two very special hospitals, Grand River Regional Cancer Centre and Groves Memorial. In particular, Dr. Boutelle, Dr. Jakda, Dr. Kuk, Dr. Lund and Dr. Otto. They can’t thank you enough. A celebration of life is planned for Thursday, August 20th , 7 - 10 PM (family remarks 8 PM) at the Wellington County Museum and Archives ( 0536 County Road 18). To celebrate Bob’s true character, attendees are encouraged to dress colourfully casual . We’ll leave you with one of Bob’s quotes (there was always a bit of Yogi Berra in Bob): “Don’t go there ‘til you’ve been there.”
Rest in Peace, Bob. Those wishing to make a donation in Bob’s memory please consider : Groves Hospital Foundation (reference Palliative Care) or Special Olympics /Guelph. Condolences maybe left at www.grahamgiddy.com
