Obituary for Preston William Arthur Balmer

Preston died on August 2, 2006 in his 90th year. Predeceased by father, Lester, and mother Alice, sisters Eleanor and Blanche, and loving wife Margaret (nee Wrigley). Survived by son Lynn (Lorna), daughters Dianne White (Terry) and Leslie (Stephen Fleming). Pres will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michelle, Kevin, Wendi, Jenni, Patti, Sean, Jennifer, Erin, Maggie and great grandchildren Ashleigh and Amanda. Pres served in the RCAF (1942 – 1945) and following the war, he spent over fifty years with the Armadale Group of companies rising to the position of vice-president. He was a loyal and dedicated employee and a close confidant of Michael C. Sifton and the Sifton family. In addition, Pres was active in Kinsmen Clubs in Regina and Saskatoon and served a term as Governor of the Saskatchewan Kinsmen. In Ontario, he was a member of Rotary Clubs in Toronto and Fergus. Pres avidly enjoyed his golf, tennis and fishing. He will be fondly remembered as a true gentleman, an honest friend and a devoted family man who loved to make people laugh. Special thanks to Dr. Beamish and staff at Groves Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care of both Pres and Margaret. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Groves Memorial Palliative Care Unit or The Michael C. Sifton Memorial Schoalrship Fund. The Funeral Service will be at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 325 St. George St. West in Fergus, on Monday, August 14th at 1:00pm. Reception to follow. Arrangements entrusted to the Graham A.
