Perla Dela Calzada
Thursday, October 20th, 1938 - Sunday, January 29th, 2023
Perla Dela Calzada (née: Cadano) of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, and Waterloo, Canada, at 84 years, was peacefully called home to our Lord and Saviour on a blustery, snowy morning of Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Grand River Hospital in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, due to medical complications.
Her 4 remaining children will lovingly remember her: Letecia, Marrieta, Ma Ann, and Darlene; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren who lovingly called her Lola. Her husband, Catalino Dela Calzada, predeceased her; daughters, Nenita and Perle; son, Perlyn; and her parents: Guadalupe and Crispino.
Known as nanay nang bayan, ma-der, ate, and Perla, she will also be dearly missed by her friends and family of Christ at the Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly and the many multicultural friends from Waterloo Region in Canada.
Perla was born in the small town of Maigo, Lanao del Norte, Philippines. She and her husband, Catalino Dela Calzada, built her family and businesses in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. Perla was hard-working, God-fearing, strong-spirited and she never stopped striving to support her family. Perla loved meeting people and helping anyone she could, touching the lives of many, and the cherished memories will live on forever. For the last 18 years, Perla has lived in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and became a Canadian.
A common thread when meeting and helping everyone she’s touched in her life is this. Perla deeply believed that victory is only in the hands of God - ang kadaogan naa ra sa kamut sa Ginoo. She would pray for their salvation and hope they would see and accept God’s eternal love.
The Lords prayer is one of Perla’s favourite prayers.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil;For You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” - Psalm 23 (NKJV)
