Obituary for Osmo Ikola

Osmo Ikola
passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22nd in Fergus. Following a childhood in Kirkland Lake and Toronto, “Ossie” moved to Oakville to launch his career with Ford of Canada. In the early 1970’s he opted to move his family out of the city to a farm in Hillsburgh, with a small herd of prized Charolais cattle. He later retired to the countryside near Carlisle. In the weeks prior to Ossie’s passing, he enjoyed many family visits, story-telling and laughter. He will be greatly missed by his wife Geraldine, daughters Cindy Gellner (Rod), Sandra McKinnon (Laurent Barret), and son Jim Ikola. Ossie was proud to be Grampa to Kyle, Jason, Anneliese, Meaghan, Jordon, Kevin, Guillaume and Scott. Also cherishing memories of Ossie are his brother Olli Ikola and wife Margaret, his sister-in-law Joan Roantree and husband Don as well as many nieces and nephews. Osmo, as his late parents Tuomas and Kerttu preferred to call him, was predeceased by his sister Helen Lappala and her husband Paul.
Visitation will be held from 10-11am on Monday September 26 2106 at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus with a service following at 11am in the Chapel of the Funeral Home.
Osmo’s family is sincerely grateful for the compassion and kindness extended by the staff and volunteers at Wellington Terrace. Much thanks, as well, is given to the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church community in Fergus for their prayers and visits. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ALS Society or The Special Friends Club. www.grahamgiddyfh.com or 519-843-3100
