Obituary for Nick Brown

Suddenly died of a massive heart attack while walking the family dog with his son in the Elora Gorge on December 26. He died as he lived, active, energetic and very much involved in his work, family, friends and many interests. Nick was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec in 1941, the eldest son of the late Right Reverend Russel Featherstone Brown, Bishop of Quebec, and the late Priscilla Marian Oldacres. He attended Bishop’s College School in Lennoxville, before earning his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University (1964) and his Master of Applied Science in Management Science (1969) from the University of Waterloo. He was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He married a fellow English Quebecer, Susan Ruth Anderson, in Quebec City in 1966. He is survived by his wife, Susan; their two children, Janet and Alexander; and his two younger brothers, Richard and Francis, and their families. After leaving Canada to live in the United States for 30 years, he moved back to Canada in 2007 and became a unique and integral part of the Elora community. His memorial service will be held at the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Elora on January 19 at 11a.m. If desired, donations in his memory can be made to the St. John’s Church J. Nicholas Brown Memorial Fund, the Elora Festival Singers’ Christmas CD 2013, National Public Radio, or the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Graham Giddy Funeral Home.
