Obituary for Montague Norman "Monty" Manning

Passed away peacefully at Wellington Terrace on Saturday, February 12, 2005 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of 65 years to Olive of Belwood. Loving father of Norman, Elayne, Kenneth and Douglas. Dear grandpa of 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Dear brother of Roland Manning of Vancouver B.C. and Marguerite Brewer of Calgary. Predeceased by his sisters Kathleen Farrow and Violet Highland. Sadly missed by many relatives and friends. Monty joined the Canadian Army in 1940 and served with the 8th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment, 2nd division, he spent 2 ½ years in Europe where he was commissioned as Lieutenant and discharged in 1946. After the war he joined the local militia where he ultimately was made Commanding Officer. He retired with the rank of Major. Mr. Manning was active in the automobile industry for many years. He was owner and operator of a Ford Franchise for thirty years. He received the Time Magazine " Auto Dealer Of The Year" awarded in 1982. During his life he required several other awards including the prestigious Paul Harris Award for Excellence from the Rotary Club. The Conservative party awarded him with the Jack Cartier Award. Five years ago Monty and his wife, Olive left Saskatchewan and retried to Pine Meadows on Lake Belwood. His passion was golf, but he also enjoyed curling and billiards. In December 2004 Monty and Olive celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with over sixty family members. A Memorial Service will take place at St. James the Apostle Anglican Church, Fergus on Wednesday February 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Canon Stephen Witcher officiating. Cremation has taken place.
