Obituary for Mildred Ruth Witzel

Mildred Ruth  Witzel
Passed away on November 7, 2017 at the age of 86. Beloved wife and farm partner of the late Maurice Witzel(1992). Proud mother of Linda Lankin (Don) of Wiarton, Lisa Goodwin (Steve) of Waterloo, Laurie Hale(2001) and Peter Witzel (Karen) of Elora. Loving Nana of Caelen(Natalie), Lindsey(Neil), Jessica, Mackenzie, Sarah(Artem), Justin(Kasey), Jeffrey, Taylor(Emily) and Brianne. She was Great Nana to 3 great grandchildren. Mildred was special “Aunt Mimi” to nineteen wonderful nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. She will be remembered by her brother Grant(Evelyn). Predeceased by her parents Bruce and Ellen Gammie, sister Marian(Gordon) and brother Robert(Jean).
Mildred’s life included her faith, family and friends. Her fondest memories depicted everyday life on the farm, family trips to the west coast and Florida, fifty plus years of brief holidays at the Sauble cottage. Her favourite activities included gardening, dancing, playing bridge, singing in the Elora United Church choir and with “the Singing Seniors.” Following husband Maurice’s death, Mildred joined the Elora Memoir Writing Group and wrote many wonderful stories of family memories.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Elora United Church, 75 Geddes St. Elora, ON. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm at the church with Rev. Greg Smith-Young presiding.
Donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to Groves Memorial Community Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
