Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Mathys Splinter can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Mathys Splinter

Mathys  Splinter
Passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord at his home with his loving wife Winnie of 59 years at his side. Dearly loved father of Mary, Sandy (Alvin), Wilma (Paul), Mark (Maria), Rob, Paul, Jim (Yvette), Trevor, and honorary daughter Karen (Ted). Adored grandfather of 18 grandchildren and great- grandfather of 5 great- grandchildren.
Also survived by 3 sisters: Ria (Jake), Truus, Ada, one brother Arie (Els), sister- in- law Bertien; Pre-deceased by 2 brothers (Kees and Gerard), parents Arie and Maria, and parents-in-law Mark and Wilhelmina.
Also survived by sister-in-law Wilma (Barend), and brother-in-law Martin, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Close to Mathys’ heart were the children of the St. Andrew’s Fergus HEARTS (Haiti Mission for Children) program. If able, family would appreciate donations in lieu of flowers to this organization.
Special thanks and gratitude to Dad’s longtime physician Dr. Kate Anderson, to his palliative care nurse Heather for her care, guidance, and support to Dad and the family, and also a special thank you to some exceptional personal care support workers who both supported and encouraged Dad through this stage of his life. We are grateful to you all.
Family and friends may visit at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Celebration of Mathys’ life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 325 St. George St. West, Fergus on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:00 am. Arrangements entrusted with the Graham A.
