Obituary for Mary Ellen Wilson

WILSON, Mary Ellen (1917-2006)Peacefully at the Wellington Terrace, Elora on Tuesday, August 8th, 2006, Mary Ellen (Weadick) Wilson, in her 89th year, loving wife of Charles Leo Wilson (1992). Devoted and caring mother of Bill and Donna, Jerry and Terry, Charlie and Darlene, Neil and Dianne, Elizabeth, Mary Rock, Frank and Carla and Cathy and Dave Good. Loving grandmother of 20 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Survived by her sister, Fran Lillis, sisters-in-law Marilyn Weadick and Helen Wilson, and brother-in-law, Tom Sweeney. Predeceased by an infant daughter (twin-1947) and son-in-law Larrie Rock (2005). Also predeceased by sisters Alice and Jean, and brother Bill, and brothers-in-law, John Lillis, Ferg Warren, Ed, Emmett, Earl and Jim Wilson, Richard Brohman, Howard Smith, and sisters-in-law, Marion Brohman and Helen Smith. Mary was born in Hamilton on September 4th, 1917 to Doctor Dan and Alice (Sweeney) Weadick and married Charles (Bill) Wilson on September 5th, 1942. They raised their 8 children on a farm outside of Elora on “Wilson Flats”, and in 1974 moved into the village.Mary was very active within the local community as a member of the Women’s Institute and Horticultural Society and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was particularly proud of her CWL Membership of over 60 years. She enjoyed a variety of crafts as well as quilting, sewing and painting and was a life-long learner, always wanting to tap into her talents. Through hardships, challenges and good times alike, she was an eternal optimist and was always whistling a tune. Mary inspired love, generosity, humour and goodness and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.The family would like to extend deepest heartfelt thanks to Doctors Simpson, Stickney and Ewen and all the dedicated and wonderful caregivers at Mother’s home, the Wellington Terrace. Friends may call at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 37 Church St. in Elora, on Thursday, August 10th 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary the Immaculate Roman Catholic Church in Elora, on Friday, August 11th 2006 at 9:30am. Burial at St. Mary/St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elora.
