Obituary for Mary Maguire

In Loving Memory of Mary Maguire
Feb 9, 1933 to August 11, 2021

I can’t believe what a beautiful life I’ve had! Everything seemed to magically turnout just right. I was born in Chesley, Ontario to Ernest & Beatrice Fox, terrific hard working parents. The children, Don (Pat), Barbara (Bob Donovan), Mary (Jim Maguire), Carol (Jack Dahmer), Arlie (Les Fulop) played and worked together in our parent’s restaurant and grocery store. We had great schools, teachers, friends and church. We spent a lot of time outdoors, biking, skating, swimming and hiking. I became a kindergarten teacher and taught in Kitchener, Scarborough and Victoria Terrace in Fergus. Thank you five-year-olds for being so much fun!

The real spark of my life was my husband, Jim, who I met because of an ice storm. We had 57 wonderful years together. We had four sons, Scott (Judy), Michael (Judy), Dave (Meridith) and Peter (Christie). Our sons took after their father in his musical abilities and our house was full of music. As a family, we enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping, skiing and travelling across Canada in our beloved Volkswagen mini van. No one would believe what terrific, helpful and loving sons they are.

I had 50 years on Brock Avenue with great neighbours and wonderful friends. Thank you friends for the biking and canoe trips, dinner evenings and visits. Thank you also to all my church friends. It couldn’t have been better.

I have 6 grandchildren and even 1 great grandchild: Megan (Lucas), Shannon (Terry), Zachary, Riley, Robbie, Danya and Amelia. Such joy!

In my memory, I ask that you tell someone special how much they mean to you.

A memorial service for Mary will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Melville United Church, 300 St Andrew St W, Fergus.
