Obituary for Mary Lou Mason (Mattaini)

Mary Lou Mason, age 76, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 24th, 2022.

She is survived by her daughter Michele (Tim), granddaughter Kaitlyn (Nicolas), Great Granddaughter Daphne and her sisters Madelyn (Peter), Pat (Ted), Carol (Mario-1991).

Predeceased by her husband Larry (2020), her grandson Kevin (2020) and her parents Jimmy (1976) & Edith (1999) Mattaini.

She was married to Larry for 54 years. For many years Larry & Mary Lou travelled in their motorhome and saw many locations in Canada & the US, until Larry’s health deteriorated. They then focused on making the backyard their “little oasis” including a pond with many fish, gardens, and patio. They enjoyed this for many years with family, friends, and their dogs Winston & Buddy. Both Mary Lou & Larry had a passion for stained-glass that worked its way into a business for many years. This kept them both very busy both in creating new designs and in the enjoyment of the many happy customers. She was especially diligent and took excellent care of Larry before and after his heart transplant in 1993 and for the 27 years after.

The family events were many and Mary Lou cherished them all. Each summer Kevin & Katy would spend precious time camping with Nana & Papa. It was something the kids, Mary Lou & Larry looked forward to for many years. Then there were the birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas Eve sleep overs, Christmas dinners, New Year’s Eve celebrations with many friends or any excuse to get together for a family dinner at Michele & Tim’s.

Mary Lou’s Catholic faith was dear to her heart.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday November 1st, 2022, at St. Joseph Parish, Fergus followed by the Rite of Committal and burial at St. Mary-St. Joseph Cemetery in Elora and followed by a reception back at the St. Joseph Parish Hall, Fergus.

In Lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted to the Guelph Humane Society or the St. Joseph Parish, Fergus, Building Fund.
