Obituary for Mary Eleanor Merritt
Mary Eleanor Merritt (Kaufman) March 21, 1924 – Feb 3, 2023.
Mary Eleanor passed away February 3, at the age of 98. The days leading up to her passing she was surrounded by many family members. There was much laughter and reminiscing amongst her family, something we know mom would have enjoyed.
She is predeceased by her parents, Milton and Edith Kaufman, her husband, Thomas Rodman Merritt, son, William Hamilton and her three brothers, Edmund, Carl and Bob. She is survived by her seven children, Thomas (Debbie), Heidi (Jerry), Christopher (Debbie), Stephanie (Jeff), Allegra (Vince), Hudson, and Natalie (Tom) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Our mom was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and when she married our dad, they moved to Oakville, and then to a beautiful country home in Eramosa Township where they spent several years and hosted many wonderful parties.
Mom will be remembered for her sense of fashion flare, charm and love of parties, she definitely knew how to throw one, and she enjoyed all her parties and those who attended.
The family would very much like to thank the staff at Wellington Terrace, in Fergus, for their amazing care of mom over the last few years and especially over this last week. Your kindness to our mom, and to all of us during her final days, was much appreciated.
Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Eleanor's name to Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home, or a community organization of your choosing. Condolences can be forwarded through Graham A. Giddy Funeral Homes in Fergus.
