Childhood Memories

I was just a little girl when I first met Betty & Hopper and their 4 sons.  They had moved into the house behind our home in Mimico.  The first time my mom met Betty was in our backyard.  Mom had hung the laundry on the clothesline in our backyard.  Later that day It started raining heavily so mom rushed out to grab the laundry and to her surprise there was Betty pulling our laundry off the line.  Betty introduced herself to mom and from that day on they had a special friendship. That was typical of Betty always giving a helping hand, even to strangers.  Betty and Hopper and my parents became not only life long friends but family and 2nd parents to me.  My memories of those times so long ago always bring a smile; wonderful memories of fun and laughter when we were all together.  My friendship with their sons, Bobby, Johnny, Ricky and Timmy never brought a dull moment. Both of our families vacationed together; watched hockey together; partied together; celebrated together; laughed together and sometimes cried together. The list of memories I have of Betty is long but to sum it up she was an amazing gracious lady with a genuine heart and many talents.    She loved unconditionally; she loved life and had a great sense of humour.  Her faith was strong and it was Betty I turned to when I had questions regarding faith and the bible.  Today, I hold onto my faith because Betty taught me well.  I will always be grateful to Betty and Hopper for helping our family through the most difficult of times.  They were there for us when my dad was losing his battle to cancer and years later when my mother was in intensive care for 10 days .  I was lost, not knowing how to ease my mom's pain or how to say goodbye.  Betty and Hopper stayed by her side for hours on end praying for her right to end .  I know their prayers brought peace to my mom and to me.  I truly believe Betty has a special place in heaven.  To Hopper and his sons and family please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.  May you be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you and may the comfort of God help you during this very difficult time.  God Bless
