Obituary for Lewis Tremlett

Passed away at Wellington Terrace in Elora, on November 17th, 2010 in his 85th year. Born in England, he grew up in Dorset, and attended Dorchester Grammar School. After graduation, he became a trainee at the BBC transmitting station, and later served in the Royal Corps of Signals. In 1946, he was sent by the Foreign Office to Singapore to set up two stations for Morse code contact with London. Back in England, he qualified in Telecommunications, Electronics, and Technical Teaching. In 1963, he emigrated to Canada, and for five years taught in Northern Ontario. For nearly ten years, he was supervisor of Private Vocational Schools for the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities. He became an enthusiast for Lifelong Learning, the subject of his doctoral thesis. He will be greatly missed by Joyce, his wife of 61 years, and by their daughter Sheila. Family will receive friends at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus, on Sunday, December 5th, 2010 from 12 – 2pm.
