Leona passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in North York General Hospital following a brief but valiant fight with cancer. She was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton NS and was the daughter of the late Alex and Beatrice (Poirer) AuCoin. She is survived by her soul mate Jack Macdonald, Downsview ON; sister, Monica (Dale) Smith; nephews Shane (Jessica), Todd (Samantha) Smith and great-nephews Liam and Owen Smith all of Halifax NS. Sister-in-law of Alex (Irene), Ken (Ruth), Earl (Carol), several nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her brother Willie Joe (2001), sister Josephine (2009) and beloved Uncle Leo (2008). She also leaves behind many extended family members and numerous friends who will miss her presence in their lives. Special thanks to life long friends Dianne and Jean as well as a newer friend, Alberto. Leona was employed by CIBC for 43 years. She loved to travel and was an avid family historian. She was proud of her Acadian and Cape Breton heritage and after retirement endeavoured to learn how to play the fiddle. She had an incredible sense of humour and lived each day to it's fullest. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will take place at the Graham Giddy Funeral Home Ltd., 280 St. David Street S., Fergus ON on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 12:00 - 1:30 pm. A service will follow at 1:30 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Belsyde Cemetery, Fergus ON. Donations in Leona's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
