Obituary for Lawrence Cyril Mindham
passed away peacefully and surrounded by family in Guelph Ontario, July 7, 2018, in his 92nd year.
Born June 13, 1927 in the United Kingdom, Lawrence served in the Royal Marines Band during both the Second World War and the Korean conflict. He emigrated to Canada in 1956 and married Sarah Alexandra Watkins the following year. His passion for wine lead him into the trade beginning as the first wine consultant for the LCBO. Lawrence went on to earn numerous designations including a Chevalier du Tastevin. During his retirement he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of wine as a sommelier. Lawrence had a remarkable outlook on life, a brilliant sense of humor, and a cunning wit which endeared him to many. He generously shared his fascinating and very funny stories with all those who would listen. His love of family and his dog Oscar, crosswords, scramble, old movies and the Blue Jays made his final years the best of his life.
He will be terribly missed by his loving family, Jessica Leis(Dale), Myles Mindham (Stephen), Rebecca Puckett (Mike) and grandchildren Yvonne (Joe), Lau, Kathy (Craig), Guillerma, Michael (Kim), Caeli, Owen (Julianna), Blair and six great grandchildren, Noah, William, Thomas, Ivan, Aksel and Shaeffer.
A Celebration of Lawrence’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus. Reception to follow at 2:30 pm at The Breadlabane Inn, 487 St. Andrew St. W. Fergus, ON, N1M 2L6. All are welcome.
