Obituary for Katharine Marjorie Hammond

Suddenly and without pain, Katharine Marjorie Hammond (nee Curtis) died on Wednesday, March 24 at her beloved home in Elora. Kath was loved. Team Hamderson (Curt, Mel, Sky and Jay) will miss the all day, and late night shopping adventures that always ended up at a Pizza Hut. And believe it or not, Trevor, Courtney and baby Ella in Toronto will miss hearing about them. Nieces Karen and Alison Curtis along with husband Tony, will be forever grateful for the support, open home and unconditional love Kath shared in good times and bad. Kath was a proud sister to Carolyn and Robert, a fun loving aunt to Liz and Guy, Jennifer, Dave and Katty. Hundreds called her a close friend and confidant. She is being missed today in Kingston, Peterborough, Toronto, Richmond Hill and in her new home town, Elora. Kathie lived. She thrived on entertaining, hosting and being with people. You haven`t seen a decorated table until you had been to a Kath party.Kathie taught. Teaching kids to read, and her kids to parent, gave her purpose. Kids of all ages gave her energy - and in return she taught them much more than the abc`s.Kathie loved. Her kids, her grand kids and all kids in general brought her immense joy. Kath cared and you knew it.Kathie gave. Gifts, time and love were always abundant. It may have been her last dollar but if you had the need, it was yours in a card with a kind message. Please join us to celebrate Kath and her loving ways. You are welcome to a visitation at Giddy Funeral Home, 37 Church St. east in Elora on Sunday March 28 from 3 – 7. A funeral will be held on Monday March 29 at 2 pm at the Elora United Church (corner of Church & Geddes Sts.) with a celebration of Kath’s life to follow at her home in Elora. Be sure to check out that themed table.Thank you for your interest in having Kath’s giving ways carry on. In lieu of flowers the family would be grateful for gifts to the Kath Hammond Literacy fund. We will find a way to match your generosity with kids and literacy in our community. Cheques can be made payable to the Centre Wellington Community Foundation and mailed to P.O. Box 436, Fergus, Ontario N1M 2W8. Please be sure to note Kath’s fund on the memo line. Donations can be made at the Funeral Home (519) 846-5352. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
