Obituary for John George Joseph Zettel
Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday December 28, 2018 in his 76th year, at Louise Marshall Hospital, Mount Forest.
Beloved husband of Joan for 45 years. Loving Dad of Christopher (Kyla), Mathew (Leah) and Timothy (Kelly). Proud Grandpa of Katie, Finn, Benjamin and Oliver. Dear brother-in-law of Doug (Glenna) Smith and Jean Warner. He will be remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by an infant brother and brother-in-law Maynard Warner.
At the age of 16, John began working for a farmer outside of Guelph. Thus began his love of the land. John graduated from the Agricultural Diploma program at the University of Guelph in 1965. He, along with his wife Joan and their three sons owned and operated the Smith family farm for 39 years. He actively farmed the 100 acre hog farm until 1992, when he began a career in feed sales. Despite the long hours required to run the farm, he always made time for family and friends. He will be missed forever by many. He was the true meaning of a gentleman and a gentle man.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David. St South, Fergus. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 1:00 pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 325 St. George St. West, Fergus. Cremation to follow with interment at Belsyde Cemetery.
