September 6th, 1940 - April 20th, 2015
John was born on September 6th, 1940 in Toronto. However, he spent his formative years in Barrie, Ontario, where he met the love of his life, Lyn Miller; they were married in 1966. In 1967, they settled in Fergus, where John had been hired by Beatty Brothers, which would eventually become GSW, where he reached the position of National Sales Manager of the Pump Division. After the birth of their daughter Kelly in 1970, they moved out to a farm in West Garafraxa; farming would remain an important part of the rest of John's life. In 1980, John started the first of several pump companies, ASM Industries,followed shortly by International Pump Technology, which remains a well recognized business in the industry. Ever the entrepreneur and wanting to make a difference, John diversified into the selling of farm equipment and running for local munipical office. John David Ortt passed away with family by his side early in the morning of April 20th, 2015 at Groves Memorial Community Hospital, under the supervision of caring nurses (special thanks go to Charmaine and Dar) and Dr. John Stickney. John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lyn, his daughter, Kelly and her husband, Steve all of Belwood; his sisters - Ginny of Fergus, Ontario; Pat of Riverside, New Brunswick; Vicky of Nanaimo, British Columbia and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his canine companion, Abby. Cremation has taken place.

Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David's Street South in Fergus, on Friday, April 24th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, a service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00pm. Reception to follow.
