John (Jack) Arthur Smeltzer passed away suddenly at home with his loving wife by his side, on Thursday May 7, 2020. Jack was born on April 5, 1953 in Fergus. To Gordon (deceased) and Margaret Smeltzer. Jack is the third of four children; Glenn (Judy) Smeltzer, Gail Rennie and Helen (Dennis) Fisher. Predeceased by sister in-law Shirley Smeltzer (Glenn) and brother in-law Rob Rennie (Gail) and brother in-law Jim Ouimette (Peggy)

It is comforting to know that he spent his last days at home enjoying retirement life with his loving wife and inseparable best friend of 47 years Diane (nee Ouimette). A little ditty bout “Jack and Diane”. Jack was a devoted father and a rock to his three children; Steven (Melissa) Smeltzer, Sherry Fletcher (Dave Francis) and Michelle (Mason) Gama.

Jack is the very best Pa any grandchild could ask for. He will be greatly missed by Brayden, Logan, Jackson, Maya, Payton and Tenley. Pa was always the one to get down and dirty with the kids. He was always the number one fan of his grandkids sporting events such as; hockey, football, lacrosse and dance. We are thankful for the encouragement and laughter he has given to everyone. Memories of Pa will never fade.

Jack had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and camping. Jack was a devoted employee. He was employed at Wolverine for 33 years before they closed. He retired from CGC in Fergus. He was a true handyman and taught others’ skills needed to fix things around the house, doing yard work and offering tips. Most importantly he taught his kids to get up and “rise and shine in the early morning”. Always singing and dancing with the biggest smile on his face.

Jack will fondly be remembered by his many brother and sister in-laws; Ernie (Cathy) Ouimette, Roseanne (Dave) Harrop, Susan (Albert) Duffield, John Paul (Judy) Ouimette, Jerry ( Elizabeth) Ouimette, Donald Ouimette and Peggy Ouimette . Jack had many nieces and nephews who will remember growing up having a fun, loving, caring and nurturing uncle who would go to great lengths to make them laugh and smile.

Jack was such a kid at heart, he made time to make people smile and always saw the positive in things. His kind hearted nature and zest for life will live on through the lives of the people that knew him best.
