The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of John "Jack" Maitland can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for John "Jack" Frederick Maitland

John "Jack" Frederick Maitland
Passed away peacefully at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus on Wednesday September 20th at the age of 89. He leaves behind his daughter Marnie (Rod) Kidder, mother of Ashley and Shawn Bowden; his son John (Shelley), parents of Amy, Becky, Rachel (Jordan), and John; his son Scott (Jill), parents of Connor, Taylor, and Carley; and his great grandchildren Dominic and Jackson (Ashley) and Claire (Rachel and Jordan). He was predeceased by Frances Maitland on December 15th, 2016, the mother of their children. A lifelong Holstein enthusiast and breeder, he founded Haigsee Haven Holsteins of Elora, ON, which specialized in raising, showing, and eventually exporting Holstein cattle on an international level. Jack, who was by nature a curious and kind man, was always ready with a joke and a smile and will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held at The Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 37 Church Street East, Elora on Sunday September 24th from 5:00-8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 11:00am at the funeral home in Elora and will be followed by a time of reception being held at The Elora United Church which is located directly across the street from the funeral home.
