Loving husband to Elizabeth for 44 wonderful years, adored foster dad of many children, especially Rod, Billy, Terry, Shareen, Anna, Paul H, Mitch, Randy, Carl, Marian, Tom, Tiara, Michael and Cathy. Much loved Papa of John, Gabriel and Julian. Predeceased by parents Thomas John and Gladys Millard, parents-in-law James and Sarah Cassidy, brother Arthur Lance and nephew Michael Lance. Survived by sisters-in-law Molly Hughes and Sarah Carlin, nieces Leslie and Janet, nephew Robert and their children. Also missed by Tippy, Toby, Noah and other beloved creatures. John loved life, literature and trees; he enjoyed spoiling his kids at “Timmies” and other Jaunts. He taught school in Toronto and wrote comedy for the CBC radio. He is remembered and sorely missed by many friends and was a greatly respected and active member of his community. Many thanks to the staff of Guelph General Hospital, who went above and beyond, for their care, especially Dr. Parent. There will be visitation on Friday July 6th , 2012 from 6-9pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus. The funeral service will be held at the St. Joseph’s Church, 760 St David Street North, Fergus on Saturday July 7th, 2012 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of store bought flowers, garden flowers or donations to the Canadian Food For Children would be gratefully appreciated.
