Obituary for John "Jack Bud" Beams

Passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Groves Memorial Community Hospital on Monday, October 31st, 2005. Born in Fergus, he was the son of the late John and Alice Beams (Cudney). He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 58 years Melba (Cawthra). Loving father of Lynda (Walter) Swanston of Elora, Sue (Earl) Towriss of Nova Scotia and Debbie (Tony) Calnen of Nova Scotia. Proud grandfather of Jim (Jodie) Swanston, John (Val) Swanston, Mindy (Mark) Nelson, Karen (Mike) Hayman, Kelly (Marshall) Malloy, Dave Calnen and Cathy Calnen and great-grandson J J Swanston. Brother of Lois MacKenzie of Salem, Joan (Harvey) Prisille of Kitchener, Don (Doreen) Cudney of Manitoba, Shirley Embury of Stouffville and Sheila Brown of Kilworthy. Missed by many nieces and nephews. Jack served as a paratrooper with the 1st Canadian Battalion in WW II and is a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 229 of Elora. He retired from GSW – Beattie in 1990 after 40 years of service. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Jack during visitation at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home and Chapel, 37 Church St. East in Elora, on Wednesday, November 2nd from 7 – 9pm and Thursday, November 3rd from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9pm. Service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 55 Church St. East in Elora, on Friday, November 4th at 2:00pm, with Rev. Kees Vandermey officiating. Cremation to follow.
