Obituary for Jean Margaurette Oakman

Jean Margaurette Oakman
Passed rather suddenly at Caressant Care Fergus on May 30, 2017.
Jean was born in Fergus in 1928 and lived in Fergus all her life. She was an only child of Ed and Mae Gerrie (Baker). Married to Allen in 1947, soul mates for 53 years. Allen, who also lived here all his life, passed in 2001. She is survived by her three children, David (Janet Miller), Lynda (Paul Jamieson), Dan (Eric Granz), 5 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Jean was known for her love of family and friends, strength, acceptance, sense of humour and artistic talents. She was a member of the Fergus Legion Ladies Auxiliary for 45 years and an avid bingo player.
Her many artistic interests included oil painting, ceramics, macramé, sewing, and various art classes.
She loved to paint local scenes including the Fergus Mill and Salem Bridge, as well as sunsets and seascapes from Sauble Beach and Kincardine. Some 40 paintings are oils on canvas and are prominently displayed in her family's homes.
She enjoyed an 85 year friendship that ended this March when we lost Dorothy MacMillan.
Jean and Allen's best friends for all their married lives, Dorothy and Gord MacMillan, are surely playing cards and reminiscing the good old days.
Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life that will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus at 1:00 pm on June 9, 2017.
Refreshments will be served.
Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Groves Memorial Hospital. Cards available at the funeral home. www.grahamgiddyfh.com or 519-843-3100.
