Obituary for Janet Beverley Stewart

Janet Beverley Stewart (nee Hurton)died peacefully after a brief battle with brain cancer at home in Belwood surrounded by family on March 14th, 2012. Beverley will be dearly missed by James Stewart, her loving husband of 23 years, son Robert Hemple, daughter Lisa Sullivan (nee Hemple), daughter-in-law Christine and son-in-law Randall. Grandaughters Kathryn, Meghan and Melissa also treasure heart felt memories of their fun loving Grandma. Bev was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to the late Dr. and Mrs. J. R. Hurton, also long time residents of Grimsby. She always took great pride in her western roots. However, in 1945, the family moved east to Brantford, Ont. where Bev graduated highschool. In 1956, she earned an Honours B.A. in English and Psychology from Trinity College, University of Toronto. She later earned her Masters in Education at Brock University (1978). Beverley is best known for her lengthly teaching career (1967-1989) at Grimsby Secondary School where she taught English and became a Guidance Counselor. She was also extremely instrumental in establishing and launching the first co-operative education program in Lincoln County. Despite encountering some obstacles (e.g.: two time survivor of breast cancer) along the way, Bev continued to be 'true to form' in retirement in that she remained undaunted in her quest for knowledge and zeal for adventure. This, she accomplished through extensive travel, reading good books, playing golf, painting and creating other works of art, gardening and enjoying the company of friends, family, pets and the spendour of nature. Memorial Gifts can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Ontario Literacy Coalition. The Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus has been entrusted with arrangements. Visitation Monday March 19 10 -11 amService will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11 am
