Obituary for James Alex Dixon

Dixon, James Alex
January 28, 1946 – February 28, 2022
Passed away peacefully at his cottage on Belwood Lake, James Alex Dixon, in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Sheila (Hamilton) and dear father of Jennifer Dixon, Fergus; Julie and Steve Hales, Elora; Jeff and Sherri Dixon, Fergus; Joanne and Dan Conroy, Guelph; and Jason and Barb Dixon, Fergus. Cherished grandfather of Emily Hales, Abby Hales, Kate Hales and Megan Hales; Trent Dixon, Paige Dixon and Daisy Dixon; Sarah Conroy and Zac Conroy; and McCaiden Dixon and Lauren Dixon.
Son of Merlin and Helen, brother of Wayne, Walter and Louise.
Jim lived his entire life in Fergus except for his years spent in the Royal Canadian Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure. Upon returning home, his life was his family and his business, Dixon Lumber, which began with his grandfather in 1923, then his father, and continuing with one of Jim’s proudest moments – the day his sons became fourth generation owners.
In his lifetime, Jim was a Veteran, a Rotarian, a 55-year member of the Fergus Legion and served on its Executive, Corporate Citizen of the Year, a member of the Rec Committee, a Mason, a world traveler, a hockey coach and a lacrosse coach. Generous and hardworking, Jim’s commitment to family and community earned him the respect and friendship of many. But nothing brought him more pleasure than spoiling his treasured grandchildren. He will be missed.
Visitation will be held at The Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home and Chapel, 280 St. David Street South in Fergus, on Monday, March 7th, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm and Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm.
