Jake will be missed by Frieda, his wife of 47 years and his sons Randy of Longview, Alberta; Harold of High River, Alberta; Marvin (Alisha) of Youngsville, North Carolina; and Wayne (Robyn) of Elora. He was a proud Opa to Joshua, Isaak, Alex, Miranda, Logan and Brandon. He will be remembered by his brothers Henk (Conchita) and Sy (Fran); his sister, Jane (John Zomer); and sister-in-law, Wilma. Predeceased by his mother, Maria (1939); his step-mother, Geessien (1981); his father, Roelof (1994), his sister-in-law Clara (1995); and his grand-daughter, Janine (1996).Born in the Netherlands in 1934, Jake immigrated with his parents and siblings to Canada in 1952. He met Frieda here and they were married in 1959. They moved their young family to Elora in 1965 where Jake worked as a home-builder for many years. He enjoyed horticulture, ornithology and literature – he was never too far from his plants, his birds or a good thick book.A memorial service will be held on August 18th, 2007 at 11am at Bethel Baptist Church in Fergus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Canadian Bible Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
