Obituary

Jack MacPherson
September 23, 1923 – April 20, 2020

Jack was born in Toronto and lived to experience and see many changes in his lifetime. He started his career in Gander, NFLD, which led to a position as a telecommunications agent (37 years) with TCA, and later with Air Canada. Jack was a vet of WW2 in Gander and Ottawa. He was somehow involved with the war-bird, Harvard going from Trenton to Ottawa. He loved to travel especially in Europe. In 1967, Jack and his family moved to the Belwood community. There he became a Charter Member with the Belwood Lions. Once Jack retired he became a rural postal delivery person.

With family by his side, Jack (96) took his final breath, passing peacefully onto his next journey. Predeceased by Kaye, his wife of 53 years, and his granddaughter Kristy, Jack will be lovingly remembered by his son, Tom (Joan) of Wasaga Beach, daughter Arleen (Tom) of White Rock, son Randall (Deb) of Kitchener, daughter Karen (Larry) of Fergus and son, Kerrigan of Guelph. Jack delighted in his 12 grandchildren and his 11 great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews.

When Jack wasn’t spending time doting on his feline friend, Luvy for 21 years, Jack had a great love of trains, planes and big ships. He knew all of the different planes. He enjoyed visiting the antique railways. “His train engine #23” was of special interest. Jack relished putting train or big ship models together. And we must not forget his other love, good old black and white movies.

Jack’s greatest trait was his humour which he used daily with his care givers. Jack’s family, extend great gratitude to the staff of Highland Manor for their attentive care, to Dr. Stickney and a special thank you to Maria Michalski for her companionship.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held at a later time.

Donations in memory of Jack may be sent to Centre Wellington Food Bank, Highland Manor’s Resident Council Fund or The Halton County Radial Railway Museum.
