Passed away on November 8th 2018 at The Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus, following a valiant struggle, with his family by his side.
Beloved husband and best friend to Anne (Martin) for 45 years. He was the loving father to Jonathan(Dawn), Melissa Bevcar and Michelle(Jarod) Rae. Dearest grandpa to Hunter, Hudson, Lexa, Emma, Jackson and Lauren. Jack was son-in-law of Jean Martin. Brother to Marilyn(Ben) Brown, Larry(Marilyn), Leone Ringle, Phyllis Van Niedek, Jerry(Barb), Sharen Hewitson, Terry Karn(Lyn Stewart) and Sam(Paula). Brother-in-law to John(Dianne)Martin, Paul(Tammy)Martin and Jayne(Mark)Holmes. He was predeceased by his parents Sam and Elda and his sisters Linda Leonard, Karen Jones and Darlene Hellyer.
Jack was a dedicated volunteer firefighter, and started with the Fergus Fire Department in 1974 and became the Fergus Fire Chief in 1994 until 2003. From 2003 until his retirement in 2011, Jack was the Assistant Chief of the Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue Department.
He was a long time employee of The Public Works Department in Fergus, retiring as Public Works Foreman of the Fergus shop. He found great enjoyment golfing, bowling, playing baseball, hockey and fishing. Visitation will be held at The Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus on Monday November 12th from 2:00-4:30 and 6:30-9:00pm(prayers at 1:30). The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 760 St. David Street North, Fergus on Tuesday November 13th at 11:00am. Burial at Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus. Donations can be directed towards The Groves Memorial Hospital (oncology unit) or the charity of your choice.
