Obituary for Isabella Ethel Wootton (Garratt)

Passed away Thursday August 13 at Wellington Terrace, Fergus at the age of 95. “Isy”, as she was best known, was born and raised in North Bay to John “Bumpy” Garratt and Gertrude “Meme” Garratt where they owned and operated the local cigar and fishing tackle store. Here Isy met the love of her life Harold. They married and upon his return from the war in 1945 they raised three children, Ronald of Scarborough (his wife Meraj), Lynda Grant of Fergus (Bob) and Kenneth of Burlington (Wendy). Loved by her grandchildren Karen Wootton, Tom and Lachlan Grant, Garratt, Kristin and Brock Wootton and Aamir Fancy. She was sadly predeceased by her granddaughter Kimberly. Great grandchildren Josh, William, Campbell, Ethan and Francesca (in Australia) will all miss her spirited love. Harold’s sun set in 1983 when he predeceased Isy. Good health and determination permitted her years of enjoyment at the cottage they had built near Beaverton on Canal Lake and then in 1985 when she moved to take up residence in Fergus. Isy loved animals, birds and her squirrels at the condo. She was a masterful rug hooker and had an incredible green thumb. Her legacy to the family will be remembrances of her independent pioneer spirit, her feistiness and how her presence warmed up the room. She will be missed by all. Internment will take place at Bolsover cemetery with a private family gathering to follow at the cottage. Thank-you to the staff at Wellington Terrace and to Dr. John Stickney for the exceptional care they constantly provided. www.grahamgiddyfh.com 519 843 3100.
