Obituary for Ida Swaving (Berends)

Ida Swaving (Berends)
With thankfulness to the Lord, on Thursday, December 28, 2017, in her 96th year, she has passed on to her eternal glory! For the last little while, with failing health and energy, she longed to be with her Lord and Maker; her prayer has been answered!
She is predeceased by her husband Klaas (January 2013) and a grandson Kristopher (April 2017). She leaves behind on this earth: Gerry (Therese); Dianne (Bob) Vanleeuwen; John (Shirley); Ken (Debbie); Paul (Heather). She was a sweet, caring Oma to 29 grandchildren and 63 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by: Gerrit (Riekje) Berends and Wim (Fennie) Berends, Gre Berends, Meint (Miek) Wiersma, all of the Netherlands; and Jake Hoeksema and his family of Hamilton and Fergus.
She was born on December 22, 1922 in Onnen, The Netherlands. Here she also met Klaas Swaving, whom she married in April 1952. In February 1954, they immigrated to Canada with baby Gerry. They eventually made their home in Belwood where they spent many wonderful years. She was a helpmate to her husband on the family farm, and later the family business.
She always showed a keen interest in the family, trying to keep up with all the goings-on!!! She was also known for her beautiful knit hats which she lovingly made for the babies and small children; and also knit many slippers and socks for many to enjoy! As of late, in her witty manner was known to say “I AM old, but you are GETTING old!” When said to her “We will miss you when you’re gone”, her response was “Well, you have had me long enough!”
