Obituary for Henry CHAMBERLAIN

Promoted by God's grace and glory on Thursday April 29th, 2004 at the Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Fergus, with his family by his side, in his 96th year. Henry was born in Chilton Village, England on January 10, 1909. He came to Canada in 1925 with his parents, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Henry worked on farms until December 1927 then started in the Elora Furniture Factory. He married Florence Winnifred Frank on Sept 5, 1931. Henry heard the gospel and was marvelously converted by God's powers according to St. John 3:3 on October 2, 1932. At that time, the gospel program was starting in Salem so Henry got involved with the Sunday School and as a board member and secretary/treasurer. At the Elora Furniture Co., Henry worked on wood working machines until 1944 and then became the foreman until his retirement in 1974. Henry has had his lay preacher credentials with the P.A.O.C. since 1950 and changed from board member to elder around the time of the amalgamation of the Elora-Salem and Fergus congregation. His first wife Florence was promoted to glory in September 1986 after 55 precious years together. He lived alone until January 1994, when he married Alice (nee Soehner). Together they had charge of the Wellington Terrace hymn sing every Tuesday morning and were a part of the pastoral visitation church program. Henry counted it a privilege to be involved in church programs because they were always rewarding for him. Sadly missed by his wife Alice (Gerrie) (nee Soehner) of 10 years. Lovingly remembered by his children Harry Chamberlain and his wife Marie of Ariss and Florence Ruby (Spies) Rickett of Guelph. Grandpa will be missed by Janice (John), Richard (Cheryl), Frank (Cathy), Brian (Marion), Debbie (Neil), Harold (Debbie), Julia (Jason), Elizabeth (Nick), Margaret (Ron), Ken (Deb), Steve (Wendy), Bob, and his 19 great grandchildren. Survived by his brother Edmund Chamberlain and his wife Beatrice of Ariss and his sister Mabel Chalmers of Elmira. Henry will be fondly remembered by all of his dear extended family. Predeceased by 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Friends and relatives may call at the Central Pentecostal Church, 7674 Colborne St, Elora, on Sunday May 2nd, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and on Monday May 3rd, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the church on Tuesday May 4th, 2004 at 2:00 PM. A reception will be held following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Family interment in Elora Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Missions for Pentecostal Church of Canada or the charity of one's choice as expressions of sympathy.
