Obituary for Helen Nirene Crane (Watson)

Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 9, 2023 at Groves memorial hospital in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, James Crane (2014) and their eldest daughter Anne (1958). Dear mother of Marion (Ed), Neil and Andy (Debbie). Proud grandma of Ben, Adam and Ryan. Sister of Karl (June) Watson and the late Bill (Eleanor) Watson. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Dear friend of Joyce Flewelling and Orvilla Armstrong (aunt).

Helen lived life to the fullest as long as she could. She loved music and thoroughly enjoyed her career as a piano teacher. Helen's greatest enjoyment in life was dancing and she and Jim spent many Saturday evenings dancing at the Elora Legion. Helen was known for her huge vegetable and flower gardens and her strawberry and raspberry pies were the best ever. She loved playing cards and was still winning as recently as a few days ago. Helen will be missed by her card playing friends at Caressant Care Retirement Home in Arthur, as well as the staff and other residents.

Visitation will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 7-9 PM. A Funeral Service will take place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 25 St. George Street West, Fergus, on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 11 AM, with burial at Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus will immediately follow the service. Following burial, family and friends are invited back to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

Special thanks to all of the nurses at Groves Memorial Hospital during her frequent stays over the past two years, and to Dr. Megan Williams for her compassionate care in the hospital.

Donations may be made to Groves Memorial Hospital in Helen's memory.
